A Day In The Life Of A North Korean Teenager


North Korea has largely been cut off from the rest of the world since the Korean War ended in July 1953. The country lives under what they call a ‘Juche’ philosophy, an extreme political system with a culture that places an emphasis on strength, independence and self-reliance. Of course, to most outsiders, North Korea simply looks like a cult of personality, based around the Kim dynasty.

So how do teenagers live their day to day lives in such a culture? How do they engage with normal teenage activities, from dating to discovering alcohol, schooling to entertainment?
